Laser & Stone

Lasers have arrived in the death industry, and for some years now the decision has not been which stone to use, but which picture to have etched on that smooth and silky, yet, hard and durable black granite stone.
These headstones are different from all the rest. You can't miss them. Shiny, black headstones blended in with the more popular, if only due to the pre-laser ease of use of the time, lighter gray(weathered) headstones of sandstone, limestone or marble, makes for quite a patchwork of design in any cemetery. Not only are they a different color and texture, they now, generally, feature photorealistic portraits of the people buried underneath them. They're a new breed of monument.
The time it takes to laser etch a headstone will depend on the type of design selected, and type of laser etching machine used - machine or artisan etched(hand-held). Usually a few hours to one day would be a fair estimation.
They do fascinate me, and they do draw my attention when I'm in the vicinity. They're just another step in the remembrance process.
